Sales analytics

A multi-venue hospitality group reviewed point-of-sale exports by hand, outlet by outlet.

Managers now drop in an export and see revenue by hour and by outlet, product performance and variance against forecast within seconds. It runs on their own machines, so no sales data leaves the business.

Venue Sales desktop app — a Square CSV export is dropped on the window, imported, then the hour by bar revenue heatmap, beverage performance, forecast variance and season trend are shown (synthetic data)

The problem

After every event, a hospitality group exported a point-of-sale report per hour and per bar, then copied it by hand into a large spreadsheet. That is about 30,000 line items per event, across roughly 36 events a season.

What I built

  • A desktop app where the manager drops in the exports, including whole past seasons at once.
  • Revenue by hour and by bar, product performance, forecast against actual, and season trends.
  • Till counts and attendance alongside the sales figures.
  • The season workbook rebuilt automatically from the imported data.
  • It runs fully offline on a Mac, with a local database and no network code, so sales data never leaves the business.

The outcome

Managers see how an event performed within seconds of importing the export, and the manual copying is gone.
